f Pennsylvania; born July 29, 1824, Frank being only one-half hour the eldest. At the age of five years his parents moved to North New Berlin, Chenango County, n.y. And in the year 1842, in time of the Dorr War, he came to Providence City, r.i., and for thirty years never saw his brother. He commenced business at the old Manufacturers' Hotel, on the site of the present What Cheer building.Mr. Furman has been a fancier of ancient coins for a number of years and he has spent a great deal of time and money for ancient coins, probably more than any other numismatist in Providence, ri. In the year 1851 he became the fortunate possessor of an ancient coin through the generosity of a lady-friend, Who presented it to him as a keepsake. This friend did not dream that this coin would be an incentive to make Furman a numismatist, but it did all the same; and to-day he has one of the finest collection of coins that can be found in this country. He has, at the present time, a collection that is worth a good many thousand dollars; and he can give the day and date of the adoption of the various coins which are now in circulation.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
